Según Patently Apple, los de Cupertino acaban de registrar en la Oficina de Patentes de los estados Unidos un sistema de reconocimiento facial.

La idea no es nueva, ya hay dispositivos que incorporan el reconocimiento facial, aunque no son completamente fiables. Con una simple fotografía del usuario, se puede llegar a engañarlos. El sistema de Apple sería capaz de reconocer gestos en 3D, de esta forma evitaría esta vulnerabilidad.

Dos serían las principales utilidades de este sistema. Por una parte posibilitaría el desbloqueo del dispositivo solamente a su dueño, o bien alos usuarios que estuvieran autorizados. De la misma forma, un mac o un iPad, podría estar configurado de distinta forma para diferentes usuarios. Una vez puesto enfrente del aparato, éste sería capaz de reconocer a la persona y así mostrarle sus propios documentos, fotos o la interfaz personalizada a su gusto.

No es descabellado pensar que el reconocimiento facial podría estar presente en una próxima generación de iPhones. Como hemos comentado no es nada nuevo, dispositivos con Android ya lo tienen. Algo parecido sucedió son Siri. El reconocimiento por voz estaba ya extendido. Apple tomó la idea y la mejoró hasta hacer algo extraordinario y completamente diferente. Veremos qué pueden hacer con esto.
